We have been blessed with over 60 volunteer teachers each year, including Dominican Sisters, students from St. Thomas Aquinas College, Nyack College, Nyack, Clarkstown, Tappan Zee, Pearl River, and Albertus Magnus High Schools, and members of local communities and parishes. Without their dedication, the program could not exist as it does.

Reflections on Teaching at "One to One Learning"

Susan Hanna – Year 2

I have found my second year of teaching beginner Spanish to be an absolute pleasure. I have become much more comfortable and relaxed, and I believe that translates into a more engaging
and fun experience. I have a great deal of respect and admiration for my students (and all the students), who are devoting so much time to learning English so they can do well in school, or have better job opportunities. I am at a loss to put
into words how this experience
has impacted me. individuals.

Vicky Kelder

I have truly loved teaching English to our students this year. The students are so appreciative and kind. I didn’t know what to expect when I started but it has been a wonderful
experience.

Martha Patterson

As I was looking into my life’s bucket to see what else I wanted to do, I saw it was to be a teacher.
After years of working with people, I had come to realize that much human unhappiness is due to feeling powerless and not being understood And when I heard about “One to One Learning” and read the motto “Language empowers; language unites”, I knew I wanted to be a part of this mission.
Being an English teacher for adults who are eager to learn another language, one that is as difficult as English, has so many rewards. One is great joy and satisfaction as progress is made, with laughter along the way. Another is the gift one receives by being in the presence of others and sharing our common humanity.

Susan Fella

As their instructor, it is gratifying to view their efforts and successes each moms of young children and with full-time jobs, so their participation is admirable and praiseworthy.
